Art's Birthday, Swansea 2011

Dear all,
Yes, it's nearly the 17th of January again. In other words:
Art's Birthday.
Take part in this international event and the fourth year of celebrations in Swansea and join us for Art’s 1,000,048th birthday.

On Friday the 14th of January we have a gallery “day” at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery kicking off at 1pm with what looks set to be a fascinating lecture by Dr. George Nash, archaeologist and specialist in prehistoric and contemporary art, entitled “New for Old.” Dr. Nash will discuss the birth of art, its earliest manifestations in Wales and how modern graffiti might hold a key to understanding prehistoric art.

This will be followed by a discussion about the ideas behind Art’s Birthday and the launch of some long-term projects, including the Three Year, Four Day Working Week and Supersaurus Radio (going out live on Monday 17th January!).

Steven Paige will also be on-hand facilitating the production of an Art’s Birthday magazine.
Add to this live music (acts to be announced) and we think this will be an all-round special day not to be missed.

If, for any reason you cannot attend, why not send us an A4 page of readily-photocopyable material to be included in the magazine? Email it to ABUK1701@googlemail.com or even send it to the gallery in an envelope addressed to “Art’s Birthday” C/O Thomas Goddard, The Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Alexandra Road, Swansea. SA1 5DZ. UK.

Or send us something for the radio show – a sound, a request, a comment, a proposal, etc (to the email address above).

Keep up to date with the Swansea activities (including a link to the radio) here.

Looking forward to seeing or hearing from you,

Barnaby Dicker, Owen Griffiths, Tim John, Dan McCabe, Aled Simons, Fern Thomas, Adele Vye.

  1. Why not listen to Filliou's Whispered Art History? http://ubu.artmob.ca/sound/fluxus_box/Fluxus-Anthology-30th_03_Robert_Filliou.mp3

  2. I had fun choosing this particular painting online that now hangs in my downtown office, from Wahooart.co, who sells canvas prints of art masterpieces. While the original is treasured in some art museum in England, my print http://EN.WahooArt.com/A55A04/w.nsf/Opra/BRUE-8LHS4U, of this painting by Edward Burne-Jones is very much appreciated by my staff and clients. The print quality is really excellent.
